Catalina Escallon Rosselli: Grid, Thread, and Memories
Opening Reception
Friday, April 1, 2022
5-7 pm
The exhibition will be on view through May 7, 2022
Colombian Brooklyn-based artist, Catalina Escallon Rosselli, blends her color and composition skills with textile techniques and brings it into her work. As an immigrant, nostalgia and sense of place take a big role in her embroideries. Her pieces aim to bridge the digital and analog space.
This body of work is a creation of her own spaces and the journey of how they make her feel. She explores grid, structure, and uses colorful thread to bring them all together into colorful, textural pieces. Catalina brings pattern and dimensionality to print and uses embroidery to tell stories, evoke emotions, and create memories. The thread takes viewers into a textural experience, a narrated story that draws the eye of the viewer from micro (color, pattern, building, space) to macro (memory).
